Optical, structural and semiconducting properties of Mn doped TiO2 nanoparticles for cosmetic applications

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles, have been routinely used in cosmetic and sunscreen applications, due to their ability absorb the UV spectrum. Nevertheless, one of main disadvantages has generation reactive oxygen species (ROS), especially hydroxyl radical, upon photoexcitation titania. In this work, we investigate TiO2 nanoparticles doped with 0.6–0.7% manganese (Mn), based more stable rutile polymorph particular, while anatase crystal form destroy almost any organic matter under illumination, is less photoreactive, Mn doping its photoactivity reduced further. study optical, structural semiconducting properties via Seebeck effect show that material displays p-type characteristics. This very significant because it shifts energy levels respect formation free radicals. ensures for titania not energetically possible hole created valence band by create an OH. radical may explain low photoreactivity. It also means can act as a effective scavenger
